As the New York Yankees’ poor run of form continues, fans are no longer just complaining about the losses. They are wondering who is to blame. Manager Aaron Boone continues to take criticism, but not everyone is convinced that he is the main cause. During a heated exchange on SNY, Dexter Henry asked if it was time to replace him, to which Hector Beauchamp responded: “Yankees fans have been saying that since the 2021 Wild Card Game. As much as Boone frustrates me… he’s not the reason we don’t have a major league third baseman.”
In contrast, Beauchamp focused on Brian Cashman and the analytics department. His criticism was unfiltered: “We just signed Jeimer Candelario, who is hitting .113 after being released by the Cincinnati Reds. That’s not Boone’s fault. It’s Brian Cashman’s fault.” The management’s gamble – hoping that the Cardinals would lower the trade price for Nolan Arenado – failed. And it left the Yankees with a vital position devoid of resources. While the roster continues to show flaws, Beauchamp’s statements echoed the sentiments of the fans: “If Boone is the scapegoat, all they will do is bring in another spokesman for management.”
The solution to stop the New York Yankees’ failures is a long way off
The growing frustration is no longer just about short-term results, but about years of questionable approaches. The Yankees began June in first place; however, a brutal sweep by the Red Sox triggered a six-game losing streak. Then came the Blue Jays, where the team was outscored 36-12 in four games. This collapse caused the Yankees’ lead in the American League East to evaporate completely.
And while stars like Aaron Judge are still producing, his performance has cooled, dropping from .392 to .364 during the losing streak. As the losses pile up, the reflection has changed: the roster may be talented, but is it balanced? The Yankees hope to win every year, but they have not won a World Series in 15 years. The team has only won one American League pennant in that span. Brian Cashman has run the team for those 15 years, and extending Boone’s contract must mean that Cashman has something to prove.
The necessary movement is not on the field, it is in the offices
And just when Cashman and his management couldn’t take it anymore, they made a decision that caused more stir than satisfaction. In the midst of the team’s worst run of the season, the Yankees doubled down with a decision that left critics, once again, excited.
The results have sent them to third place in the American League East. Both Toronto and Tampa Bay have begun to pull away from the Yankees, while Boston is closing in to threaten the Bronx and drop them to fourth place.
