The Yankees are still maneuvering to find what they’re looking for before the trade deadline

As the MLB season approaches the halfway point, teams like the New York Yankees are scrambling to make trades before the trade deadline. The Bronx Bombers have had a good season so far, leading the American League East, but they have vulnerabilities they are looking to improve.

The next challenge for the Yankees will be a three-game series at Citi Field against the New York Mets. The Mets, meanwhile, began July on a good note by winning two of three games against the Milwaukee Brewers, after also having a losing June; the first game is being played on July 4, starting at 1:10 p.m.

Which position has caused problems for the New York Yankees?

It is important to remember that June was a mediocre month for the Bronx Bombers, who finished with a .481 winning percentage after starting the month 14 games above .500 and 5.5 games ahead in the division. Aaron Boone, the team’s manager, emphasized the importance of sticking together.

The positive factors for the Pinstripes are largely due to their starting rotation, the wonderful MVP-worthy performances of Aaron Judge and a number of players who play their key roles. What has caused problems for the Yankees is the infield, particularly third base.

Yankees would be interested in Ryan McMahon

According to New York Post baseball columnist Jon Heyman, the Pinstripes are looking for a new third baseman and the first name on their radar is Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies. According to Statcast, McMahon has scored three defensive runs saved and outs above average so far in 2023

Therefore, he remains clearly an outstanding defender at third base, and that’s the only thing the Yankees need right now. In addition, McMahon’s contract is another point in his favor. He currently earns $12 million this year, with $16 million to be paid in both 2026 and 2027. It’s a good deal for a quality third baseman.
