Robert Carmona, considered the world’s oldest footballer (a record recognised by the Guinness Book of Records), is 62 years old and is looking to sign for what would be the 50th club of his career after leaving Nuevo Casabo in Uruguay’s fourth division.
I’m waiting to be recognized by FIFA
“It will be very difficult for someone to repeat my feat as the world’s oldest player, almost impossible. There were some who were once the oldest, but now they are much younger than me. I’m waiting to be recognised by FIFA,” he said.
I play football without a contract… Although my basic salary is not enough to live on, I have other sources of income. I don’t want for anything
The 62-year-old Uruguayan footballer, who started his career in 1976, guarantees that “Cristiano Ronaldo and I are similar in terms of professionalism”.
In an interview with Al-Eqtisadiya, he explained that “since I was a child I knew that I had the ability and that I could be a great football player. I have always said that one of the most important things to be successful in football is to train, and that is why, for 49 years, I do it every day, without excuse. I train two to three hours a day for six days a week and I am similar in terms of professionalism.”

I can still play the 90 minutes like I did in 95% of my career, but I respect the coach’s decision
“Although my base salary is not enough for me to live on, I have other sources of income related to sports rights and participation in events. I don’t lack anything,” he said.
Regarding his future, he stresses that he is waiting for offers: “In my life I have already played in 49 clubs and played more than 2,000 matches. After leaving Nuevo Casabo, from the Uruguayan fourth division, at the end of last year, I am analyzing the options I have.”
“I can still play the 90 minutes as I did in 95% of my career, but I respect the coach’s decision. Also, my decline in participation in the last two years is due to the injuries I suffered,” explains Carmona.
