The 23-year-old forward Trinity Rodman, one of the great figures of American soccer, renewed her contract with the Washington Spirit of the NWSL until 2028.
Rodman’s new contract, worth more than $1 million per season, will make her the highest-paid soccer player in the world, her agent Mike Senkowski of Upper 90 Sports Group told ESPN.

The ‘Rodman soap opera’ forced the NWSL to create a rule that allows its teams to exceed the salary cap by $1 million in order to attract and retain a group of players considered “high impact”.

“I have made the DMV (Washington metropolitan area) my home and the Spirit my family, and I knew this was where I wanted to start the next chapter of my career,” Rodman said in a club statement.
“I’m proud of what we’ve built since my rookie season and excited about the direction this club is heading,” she added. “We’re going for titles and raising the bar, and I’m looking forward to continuing to do that with my teammates and the best fans in the NWSL.”
Rodman and the Spirit have been league finalists in the last two seasons.
“Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly, she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s football,” said Michele Kang, owner of the Spirit, as well as OL Lyonnes and London City Lionesses of the Women’s Super League.
