The World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers has produced epic moments on the diamond, but also in the stands. And while it’s normal to run into characters at this type of event, no one saw Coronel Sanders coming to enjoy the game.
Among the crowd appeared a double of the famous KFC representative, who immediately broke the internet after he was caught on camera. The character was behind home plate, but it seems that the presence of this curious character was not by chance.
Theories about Colonel Sanders’ presence in the stands at Rogers Stadium
For some internet users, the presence of Colonel Sanders in the stands at the Toronto Blue Jays stadium was aimed at unsettling the Dodgers‘ Japanese players. For them, the fast food chain’s iconic figure is a mythical character.
According to a legend called The Curse of the Colonel, the ghost of Sanders cursed the Hanshin Tigers, one of Japan’s oldest clubs, in revenge for throwing his figure into a canal.
Los Angeles Dodgers Japanese players
The Dodgers’ roster includes three Japanese players: Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto (the starting pitcher in the second game) and Roki Sasaki
None of these three players played for the Hanshin Tigers. The curse, according to records, began when they reached the Japan Series in 1985.
That championship series ended with the celebrations and, in addition, with the excitement at its peak, the figure ended up in the canal thrown there by someone who surely had euphoria at its maximum.
After that title, it took 38 years for them to be champions again, and that is why they attribute it to what happened with Sanders in the celebrations of the 1985 championship.
However, Colonel Sanders at Rogers Stadium had no effect on the Japanese players. Yamamoto shone with a pitching gem on the mound, having a complete game.
