The WNBA recognizes the Las Vegas Aces for a new record against the Chicago Sky: they had to wait a decade to get it

A new Las Vegas Aces victory over Chicago Sky 92-61 was not the only reason for the team to celebrate.

With a 29-14 record and qualified for the Playoffs, a new victory led them to conquer an incredible and historic WNBA record.

“15 STRAIGHT WINS”

Las Vegas came into the showdown against Sky accumulating a total of 14 straight wins.

Prior to the August 2 game where the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Aces by 58 points, they were a .500 team by any standards. However, since that same day, the Aces have not lost again.

With another win, A’ja Wilson’s team went down in history alongside only three other teams that have managed to accumulate this many consecutive victories:

  • Houston Comets of 1998 with 15 wins.
  • Los Angeles Sparks of 2001 with 18.
  • Phoenix Mercury of 2014 with 16.

The league’s official account shared this achievement on X, and left a suggestion that excites Aces fans: “All three went on to win the Finals that season.”

“Peaking heading into the postseason! Arguably the title favorite!!”, “This is crazy work”, “I can feel the championship vibes already! Do you think they’ll break the record of 18 wins and bring home the trophy?” were some of the comments from the most enthusiastic fans.

During the game, the team showed its power and depth through Jackie Young who had 15 points and 7 assists. Jewell Loyd, who also scored 15 points, became the 16th player in WNBA history to reach 6,000 career points.

MVP candidate A’ja Wilson also stood out with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

Looking ahead to the Playoffs, scheduled for September 14, the Aces will likely face either the Indiana Fever, Golden State Valkyries or Seattle Storm.
