The NBA game between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 p.m. was postponed due to a condensation problem on the United Center court and will be played at a date to be announced.
After almost two hours of waiting, with players from both teams milling around between the locker rooms and the court, the NBA announced in a statement that the game had been postponed.
The United Center maintenance staff worked to dry the court for more than an hour, but the humidity remained on the court and conditions were not conducive to competition.
Why did moisture condense on the United Center track?
Although temperatures will be around 10 degrees Celsius on Thursday, well above the January average in Chicago, heavy rain and humidity have caused problems on the track.
The United Center, the largest arena in the NBA, has its basketball court placed on top of the ice rink used by the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, the US ice hockey league.
Among the celebrities in attendance at the arena for Thursday’s game was Las Vegas Aces WNBA star A’Ja Wilson.
