The truth behind Tiger Woods’ achilles rupture: Career in jeopardy?

It is a time of adversity for golf legend Tiger Woods. He announced that he has ruptured his left Achilles tendon this after just weeks of the passing of his beloved mother, Kultida Woods. Woods, 49, shared the update on social media, revealing that the injury occurred while he was ramping up his training at home before heading back to playing in a golf tournament.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote. He went on to explain that Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair surgery. According to Woods, the surgery went smoothly, and his doctor expects a full recovery.

This latest setback adds to the list of challenges that Woods has faced throughout his illustrious career, including multiple back surgeries and a near-fatal car crash in 2021. Fresh off his participation in the inaugural TGL golf league, Woods had been eyeing the Masters next month, where he made history last year by making the cut for the 24th consecutive time.

Setbacks have been a problem for him

With all that said, the combination of his mother’s death and this recent injury has put a damper on his comeback plans. “This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it,” Woods said last week at a TGL match.

“My heart is not into practicing right now. I have so many other things to do with the tour. Once I start probably feeling a little bit better and start getting into it, I’ll start looking at the schedule,” he added. Despite earning an exemption in the 2025 Players Championship, thanks to his 2019 Masters win, Woods was not on the list of 144 players set to compete as of Monday, March 10, according to USA Today.

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support,” he wrote. As Woods embarks on his recovery journey, the golf world will be watching closely, hoping for his swift return to the sport he has dominated for decades. The question remains whether Woods will be able to overcome this latest obstacle and continue to add to his illustrious career.
