Police do not consider whether a person is famous, wealthy, or well known when making an arrest. If someone makes a mistake, they must face the consequences indicated by the charges. That brings back memories of what happened on May 17, 2024, when PGA Tour number one golfer Scottie Scheffler experienced a rather unusual situation.
(editado)
That day, Scheffler ended up in a cell, completely alone in Louisville, while watching news coverage of his own arrest. The episode resurfaced this past Thursday, February 12, 2026, due to a post on X.
The X post that revived Scottie Scheffler’s arrest
Robby Berger, who runs the X account @BrilliantlyDumb, posted a 57-second video accompanied by the text:
Had to ask Scottie about jail.
In the video, the golfer is seen walking. Scheffler himself explained what he experienced during those moments behind bars.
So when I was sitting in the cell they put me in – like a holding cell, so I think, yeah. So I’m in a cell by myself. If you went to the front of the cell and looked out that way, I could see the TV. And I saw myself on the TV.
The events that led to Scottie Scheffler’s arrest
It is worth recalling that on that date there was a fatal accident very close to the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, which prevented golfers from entering at 5:00 a.m.
Perhaps without realizing it, Scheffler drove a courtesy car provided by the organization to the entrance at 6:15. At that point, Detective Bryan Gillis stopped him and later placed him in handcuffs.
The formal charges against the player were filed at 7:28 a.m., and the news quickly went viral.
But then I saw myself on the TV, then I saw they delayed it, and I was like, ‘Maybe… maybe I’ll get out of here in time, and I can still play.’
Scheffler’s companion asked whether he was aware of everything happening outside during his arrest, to which he replied:
Yeah, so you know, we do everything. I just do a quick stretch, go to the tee.
I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. That was a first for me. That was part of my warmup. I was just sitting there waiting, and I started going through my warmup.
People were going nuts. It’s just very confused people on the team. They went crazy. That’s like one of the loudest receptions I ever got.
This will now remain as a bitter episode the golfer experienced, one he will likely recount at the dinner table in years to come.
