The strange situation Matt LaFleur could face with the Packers if he loses to the Bears

Matt LaFleur is beginning to attract bad energy in Green Bay. Although his Packers still hold a winning record, the rollercoaster nature of this season has frustrated fans, who may start exerting serious pressure if they dislike the team’s trajectory over the next few games.

He is not alone among NFL coaches who could be putting their jobs on the line if their teams fail to improve or at least stay competitive on the road to the postseason.

Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills might be another case in which upper management could lose patience and decide to fire him before the season ends, especially if they deliver another disappointing performance like the one seen in Miami.

Another head coach walking a tightrope is Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His team has been unpredictable this season, playing like a nomad in the NFL. With Aaron Rodgers, Tomlin’s full gamble, the Steelers have shown no stability and look uninspired on offense. Although the veteran coach still enjoys the franchise’s confidence, if, for the first time in his tenure, Pittsburgh misses the postseason, major changes could be coming.

Is Matt LaFleur’s job at risk with the Packers?

The Packers’ loss last Monday night to the Philadelphia Eagles was a tough one to swallow. The game was dull and sluggish, featuring unproductive offenses on both sides. The defense didn’t help much either. While they managed to limit Saquon Barkley’s production, they still let the game slip away late.

The media has begun to question LaFleur seriously because the team simply isn’t functioning. Even with the arrival of Micah Parsons, the franchise has not become the dominant force many envisioned before the 2025 kickoff.

Another major concern is quarterback Jordan Love, who seems to be regressing instead of improving into an elite passer. The spark he showed during his rookie season, when he replaced Aaron Rodgers and appeared to herald a new era of success in Green Bay, has completely faded. Every time he faces top NFC opponents, he collapses under pressure.

The arrival of rookie receiver Matthew Golden through the draft was supposed to bolster the Packers’ aerial attack, but those expectations have gone unfulfilled.

Running back Josh Jacobs has also ceased to be a difference-maker for Green Bay. In Monday night’s game, his performance was disappointing, with plays that barely crossed the line of scrimmage.

With a team that has lost its balance and offensive identity, it’s highly possible that the Packers’ front office could begin exploring new coaching options and decide to part ways with Matt LaFleur before next season.
