While debates swirl about whether the Kansas City Chiefs will regain their dominance, analysts and experts are making it clear that doubting the franchise is unwise, as it’s undoubtedly one of the most solid and complete teams in the NFL. Andy Reid‘s squad is built to reach the playoffs, and one could even argue they could compete without Patrick Mahomes.

No one can deny that much of the franchise’s success stems from what the quarterback has delivered, though recently, the spotlight-and pressure-has shifted away from him.

The most important player on the Chiefs is…

It’s true that quarterbacks often steal the spotlight, but a team’s success requires all pieces working together seamlessly. In this regard, other positions are vital to achieving NFL success.

Recently, a ranking highlighted the most important non-quarterback players across all 32 teams, and for the Chiefs, Chris Jones was named the standout.

This was revealed by Steve Palazzolo and Sam Monson on Check The Mic.

“We always talk about how much he impacts the game on the interior and then on the edge when he wants to. When you’re really watching the Chiefs, the number of times that he wins within like a second and a half of the snap, which is really fast,” Palazzolo said.

“For me, it’s Jones. He’s the best defensive tackle in the NFL until somebody dethrones him. And if the Chiefs‘ defense did not have him, I think they’d have some problems.”

Chris Jones is undeniably a key player for Andy Reid‘s team. In 2025, he’ll enter his 10th season with the Chiefs, coming off a 2024 campaign where he recorded 37 total tackles, five quarterback sacks, and 6.5 tackles for loss.

The world often falls in love with offenses, but as the saying goes, “defenses win championships.”
