DiJonai Carrington‘s trade to the Dallas Wings has been met with excitement from level-headed people and opposition from some on social media, who bizarrely claim the trade for the WNBA’s Most Improved Player should be banned.
Carrington will head to the Wings along with the 12th pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft, whilst the Connecticut Sun will receive Jacy Sheldon and the eighth pick in the draft suggesting they’re in a restructuring phase.
The 27-year-old averaged 12.7 points per game throughout the 2024 season and added an extra five rebounds and will now link up in the Lone Star State with her girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith, which is apparently controversial to some.
One user commented, “Putting her on the same team as her girlfriend shouldn’t be allowed.”
And a second added, “Dijonai & Nalyssa on the same team is crazy.”
However, some of the talk was far more positive as another fan said, “Nalyssa and Dijonai united + Arike [Ogunbowale] AND P Buckets [Paige Bueckers] from the draft? Oh they gone be nice once they gel together.”
And a fourth noted, “Dijonai Carrington is one of the best defenders in the league, is the reigning Most Improved Player, and 1st Team All-Defense last season, this is a helluva move for the Wings.”
Who do the Dallas Wings play first?
The Dallas Wings, formerly the Detroit Shock, are looking to charge towards the WNBA Playoffs in 2025 after a dismal campaign last time out saw them finish with a .225 record and second-last in the league standings, only ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks.
To qualify, the side will only need to finish within the top eight positions to have their shot at championship glory and they have some solid talent along with Carrington and Smith, as well as the highly-rated Bueckers from college and the All-Star MVP in Ogunbowale.
The Dallas Wings will open their 2025 WNBA season against the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday, May 17. Kick-off will be from 19:30 ET/16:30 PT.
