The shocking comparison between NFL MVP Josh Allen and Ohio State quarterback Will Howard, who will be eligible for the Draft

This year, the class of quarterbacks eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft hasn’t been particularly appealing. Even so, Cam Ward, the quarterback from the University of Miami, is expected to be chosen with the first pick by the Tennessee Titans.

Despite the quarterback class not being especially strong, QBs always steal the spotlight because teams coming off forgettable seasons are desperate to find that one player who can change the trajectory of their franchise. This is one of the reasons why Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, and Jalen Milroe have gained significant value compared to other players who might have more talent but don’t play quarterback.

Will Howard is compared to Josh Allen

The former Ohio State quarterback and current college football national champion is seen by analysts and experts as a mid-round Draft pick. However, his comparison to NFL MVP Josh Allen could boost his stock in the final days leading up to the Draft.

NFL analyst and former coach Jon Gruden-known for his media presence-believes that Howard shares similarities with Josh Allen, particularly in terms of MVP-level potential.

Gruden resumed his series of interviews with quarterback prospects and kicked off the 2025 edition with Will Howard as his first guest. During the interview, Gruden compared Howard to Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills quarterback.

“You’re a dual-threat quarterback, right?” Gruden asked Howard. “That’s the league MVP. He’s a true dual threat-and a big one.”

Gruden also noted that Howard, who measured 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighed in at 236 pounds, and scored 26 rushing touchdowns during his college career, has the ability and playing style reminiscent of Allen.

“How the hell are you not being considered the No. 1 quarterback in the draft?” Gruden asked Howard. “You’re like a young Josh Allen.”

Allen was selected in the first round with the seventh overall pick in 2018. However, no team is expected to take that kind of risk with Howard in this Draft. Instead, he’s likely to be picked in the middle or late rounds and developed with the help of experienced players. We’ll see if Gruden ends up being right.
