At the start of the 2025 MLB season, approximately six months ago, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. seemed to be out of the Toronto Blue Jays, his future was up in the air and in all the interviews he appeared in he was questioned about what would become of his career because he did not have his contract extension agreed before the February deadline and the player along with the fans thought that drama was inevitable.

However, things changed after a sweep against the New York Mets, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. received his 14-year, $500 million extension to become a Blue Jays for life. The first baseman waited patiently without testing free agency and the organization rewarded him with the third largest contract in Major League Baseball history.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a significant impact on the 2025 season with the Toronto Blue Jays. During the campaign, Guerrero Jr. was one of the team’s leading offensive figures, standing out as one of the best hitters in the league. His ability to hit home runs and drive in runs was instrumental to the Blue Jays’ success during the season.

Guerrero Jr. not only stood out for his offensive power, but also for his ability to get on base and his discipline at the plate. His presence in the lineup was a constant threat to opposing pitchers, allowing the Blue Jays to have an offense that was feared throughout MLB.

In addition to his impact on the field, Guerrero Jr. was also a leader in the clubhouse and a role model for his teammates. His dedication and work ethic inspired his teammates to give their best in every game.

In short, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a key player in the Toronto Blue Jays’ success in the 2025 season, both for his individual performance and his influence on the team.

After all that uncertainty, calm returned and with it came the results. Vladimir responded like a true team leader with a .292 average, 23 home runs and an OPS of .848 in 156 games played, earning him a call-up to his fifth All-Star Game. The locker room now sees him as a mature player and his teammate Alejandro Kirk highlighted this: “He’s not the 20-year-old Vladimir who made his debut.”

The effect of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. served to turn the page after a disappointing 2024 campaign where they were last in their division. Now the Blue Jays won 94 games, were leaders of the American League East and today are playing in the Championship Series for the first time since 2016 and much of it is owed to Guerrero Jr., proving that the Toronto organization was right to give him his contract extension.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the 2025 Playoffs: the leader Toronto needed

Until this year, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s postseason numbers were pretty modest, as he was 3-for-22 in his first six playoff games, but like his regular season, he carried the team in the Division Series against the New York Yankees, going 17-9 with nine RBIs and three home runs, including a Grand Slam at Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays are now playing the Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners and they need Vladimir because he has not been able to hit, it is as if he has turned off. They are now down by two games and visit T-Mobile Park in search of the miracle to be in the 2025 World Series.
