The reason why Di Maria will not accompany Messi in Miami, according to Mascherano

Javier Mascherano, current Inter Miami coach, dispelled rumors about a possible signing of Angel Di Maria by the US team, where Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba currently shine

Despite the close friendship between Di Maria and Messi, and the strong Argentine presence at the club, the “Fideo” has opted to return to his roots.

“I have friendship with him and I was clear that there was no chance that he would come to Miami,” explained the Argentine coach. “He wanted to go home. It was a decision he had already made a long time ago.”

Di Maria, 37, will fulfill his wish to retire at Rosario Central, the club where he made his professional debut before embarking on an elite career in Europe. For more than 15 years, he defended the colors of Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and Juventus, in addition to winning the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.“When you spend many years away from home, it’s normal to want to be back with your family,” Mascherano added. “And in his case, he had the possibility of returning to his club, where it all began. I’m very happy for him, because I know it was his wish.”

Mascherano also stressed that the decision was made together with the player’s family: “Footballers often leave on their own, but come back with their families. And decisions are already starting to be made in that environment.”

Although fans dreamed of seeing Di Maria and Messi together again, this time in MLS, the cycle closes in Argentina. “I know that Angel was very excited to finish his career at Central. I’m very happy for him,” concluded Mascherano.
