The Rams were willing to let their star receiver go to get AJ Brown

Nobody saw it coming. But little by little, they have positioned themselves as the clear favorite to land Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown. The Los Angeles Rams came from behind to become, alongside the New England Patriots, the main contenders to acquire the outstanding playmaker.

However, as the days passed, the Rams decided to withdraw from the race for the player after the Eagles repeatedly refused to consider moving him. Because of that, it now appears that the team led by Mike Vrabel remains the only serious suitor attempting to secure the receiver.

At the same time, there is still uncertainty surrounding the Eagles’ front office, which seems to have paused its efforts to trade the player. The organization may simply be waiting longer to see how the market evolves and how other teams position themselves.

The Los Angeles Rams were willing to give a lot for AJ Brown

He is a talented player who is clearly unhappy with what has been happening to him within the franchise. For that reason, he wants out, yet the team’s leadership does not seem willing to let him go. It already resembles a relationship in which one side no longer wants to continue, while the other stubbornly refuses to move on.

Regarding this particular situation, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, more details surfaced during the program Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio about what the Rams were reportedly prepared to do in order to bring Brown to Los Angeles.

And it was no small gesture. The Rams were even willing to move Davante Adams if doing so created a real opportunity to bring AJ Brown to their roster.

Per a league source, the Rams – while talking about a possible trade for Brown – were pursuing the possibility of trading Adams.

The Rams presumably were hoping to get a deal done by today, when a fully-guaranteed $6 million roster bonus came due. And the payment of the bonus likely means they’ll keep Adams and his $18 million base salary.

Florio wrote.

It is worth remembering that Davante arrived in Los Angeles in 2025 after a disastrous stint with the Las Vegas Raiders. Before that, he had already tried to revive his career during the 2024 season with the New York Jets, but the outcome ended up being practically the same.

In the end, as is now widely known, the Rams chose not to continue pushing for a deal to acquire Brown. Philadelphia’s leadership never appeared ready to part ways with him, and the prolonged effort only drained energy and time from the process.

Because of that, the Rams will move forward into the 2026 season with Davante Adams and Puka Nacua leading their receiving corps. With Matthew Stafford also returning for another campaign, the team is expected to be among the strongest contenders to reach Super Bowl LXI.

In fact, several early predictions already place them second in the race for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, trailing only the defending champions, the Seattle Seahawks, ahead of many traditional contenders across the league this year overall today.
