Last season was a disaster for the New York Giants, which is why they made a complete overhaul at the quarterback position. They ended up cutting Daniel Jones before the season ended and signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency. Additionally, they selected Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss in the first round of the draft.
Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are hoping that Dart becomes the future of the franchise and that they can hold onto their jobs – both of which are at risk after two very difficult seasons, despite securing a playoff win back in 2022.
It’s a given that the Giants will start the season with Russell Wilson under center, but according to team insiders, Daboll will at some point need to put Jaxson Dart on the field to see what the former Ole Miss star is capable of.
Russell Wilson admitted he signed with the Giants because of Malik Nabers
There’s no doubt that Malik Nabers was the Giants’ best player last season. He proved to be a true star during his rookie campaign, despite all the adversity he faced – quarterback changes, injuries, and more.
Nabers had 109 receptions – a record for any rookie wide receiver – totaling 1,204 yards (seventh in the league) and scoring seven touchdowns in 15 games. That’s why Russell Wilson revealed he signed with the Giants to be able to play with a receiver like the one who emerged from LSU.
“I came here because of him,” Wilson said during Fanatics Fest. “I really wanted to play with someone so special like him.”
Russell Wilson spent 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and had three 1,000-yard receivers: Tyler Lockett (three times), Doug Baldwin (twice), and DK Metcalf (once). So “Russ” already has experience helping receivers shine and maximizing their talents – and he could do the same with Malik Nabers, who has already proven himself to be an NFL star.
