The physical rule that prevents Sophie Cunningham from dating certain men: “I would just feel like the man in my relationship”

Sophie Cunningham is known for her competitive mindset on the basketball court, but the Indiana Fever guard recently sparked conversation off it as well.

During a relaxed discussion about relationships and modern dating, the WNBA player revealed a personal rule that shapes who she is willing to date.

The topic came up on her podcast, where she often chats with longtime friend and co host West Wilson. The pair were answering listener questions about dating experiences and the influence of technology on relationships.

While the conversation began with a broader discussion about dating apps, it eventually turned toward physical preferences and what matters most when meeting a potential partner.

A personal preference rooted in height

Standing around 6 foot 1, Cunningham explained that height is a factor she cannot ignore when it comes to relationships. During the conversation, a listener asked the hosts about dating taller women and whether there was any advice for men interested in them.

That question prompted the basketball player to share her own perspective.

“I don’t think I’m the right tall person to ask, because I could never date someone shorter than me. Because I’m already big. So, I want someone who is going to make me feel smaller,” she said.

Her comment reflected how she views the dynamic in a relationship. Being taller than many people she meets, Cunningham admitted that dating someone shorter would make her uncomfortable.

“I would just feel like the man in my relationship,” she added.

The remark quickly caught attention online, with many fans reacting to the blunt honesty of the statement.

An open conversation about modern dating

The discussion on the podcast also explored the challenges people face while navigating dating apps. According to the hosts, quick judgments based on photos can often misrepresent someone before two people even meet.

Cunningham suggested that pictures do not always show someone at their best, especially when it comes to men. Meeting in person, she argued, can completely change first impressions.

Despite her personal rule about height, the Indiana Fever player made it clear that every relationship is different. She acknowledged that many couples thrive even when the woman is taller than her partner.

For her, however, the preference remains simple and personal. While she respects other dynamics, Cunningham believes the right relationship should make her feel comfortable, confident, and balanced.
