The Phillies could target the “Japanese Aaron Judge” to become an unstoppable team

In the race to strengthen their ranks for next season, the Philadelphia Phillies are looking east. According to recent reports, the team is preparing a serious offer to compete for Munetaka Murakami, the Japanese slugger who has been dubbed “Japan’s Aaron Judge” for his hitting power and ability to hit home runs.

At 25 years of age, Murakami is already a legend in the NPB with more than 240 career home runs and an offensive profile that has caught the attention of multiple MLB franchises. His .272 batting average, a solid .295 OBP and his track record of impact in key moments make him a potential elite reinforcement for any team, but the Phillies, with clear title ambitions, seem willing to strike first.

Why do the Phillies want to sign Murakami? Power, versatility and long-term projection

Murakami’s potential arrival would not only be a media move, but also a strategic decision. The left-handed hitter can play first and third base, as well as being a constant threat in the batting order. His profile fits perfectly into a lineup that already includes the likes of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner.

In addition, his youth makes him a bet for the future, unlike other international stars who have made the leap to MLB in more mature stages of their careers, Murakami is still in the prime of his development. Signing him would mean securing a key piece for at least half a decade, something few opportunities on the market offer with this level of proven talent.

The Phillies and their history of international signings

Although the Yankees, Dodgers and other giants are also interested, the Phillies could have a slight advantage, as the franchise has shown in the past its willingness to invest heavily in international talent and Murakami would be no exception.

The formal posting process by the Yakult Swallows has not yet begun, but it is expected to start in the coming weeks. This will begin a true international auction, where Munetaka will choose his destination based on factors such as sporting project, club culture and financial offer.
