The Patriots excite their fans after losing the Super Bowl by targeting this year’s top free agent

The New England Patriots have already started working on it. After the blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the front office is looking for new weapons for Drake Maye. With this in mind, an insider thinks that the team will target one of this year’s top free agents, tight end Kyle Pitts.

The Patriots’ offense performed better han expected this year, ranking as follows:

  • No. 3 Total Yards: 379.4 per game
  • No. 2 Points: 28.8 per game
  • No. 4 Passing Yards: 250.5 per game
  • No. 6 Rushing Yards. 128.9 per game

However, in Super Bowl LX, the Seahawks dismantled offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ unit piece by piece, making it clear that something had to change.

A key piece in this change, according to Fox Sports analyst Greg Auman, could be the Atlanta Falcons’ star tight end, Kyle Pitts.

Will the Falcons let Pitts go?

The fifth-year tight end became a free agent as soon as the Falcons’ season ended, and neither side has announced a new deal.

Regarding this, Auman stated, “The Falcons could hedge their bet and give him the franchise tag, which is $16 million for one season.” However, he believes the Patriots are a better fit for Pitts.

In turn, head coach Mike Vrabel would benefit from a pass catcher who contributed 88 receptions for 928 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, Auman noted.

Although Auman questioned, “Was that a success more telling of Atlanta’s absence of any real receiving depth?” he also emphasized that Pitts will be the best tight end available in this free agency.

New England has plenty of salary cap space

After several key contract restructurings last year, the Patriots enter this free agency period with $35.2 million in salary cap space.

At 25 years old, 6-foot-6, and 250 pounds, plus all his production from last year, Pitts’ contract would be worth between $12 and $14 million in the current market.

If the Pats take Auman’s advice, Drake Maye could get a top-tier target to team up with star Stefon Diggs, while Pitts would land on a Super Bowl contender.
