New updates just arrived about the NYC nightclub shooting involving New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd. According to The New York Post, linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles were the other two Jets’ players alongside Boyd at the midtown hotspot Sei Less shortly before gunfire erupted outside the venue.
They got engaged in a sour confrontation with a group of patrons and the situation ended up in a shooting outside the club, leaving Boyd hurt with a bullet in the gut, law enforcement sources said on Monday.
How everything started
Everything took place around 2 a.m. . at Sei Less Asian Fusion nightclub on West 38th in Manhattan on early Sunday. The three were having fun until a gang of ‘wisecrackers’ began making fun of their fancy duds, making Boyd uneasy with the “vibe”, New York Post sources said.
As they were leaving, a confrontation broke out. The verbal dispute quickly turned physical, and moments later, shots were fired. Boyd was hit while Sherwood and Charles escaped uninjured. Police indicated that nobody in Boyd’s group was armed.
There is a video online posted on X about the altercation. @Crime_In_ NYC was the account that uploaded the evidence, showing a group of men in the street throwing punches when two shots ring out, making everyone leave the place. No explicit footage can be seen.
Boyd, 29, was struck during the altercation and rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. He is on the physically unable to perform list for the team
Instant reactions from police and the Jets
The NYPD has not made an arrest yet but released surveillance camera photos of the suspected gunman. Sources said that two high-end vehicles (a BMW X6 SUV and a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach) raced from the scene after the shots were fired.
In a statement, the owners of Sei Less denied the club’s involvement in the situation:
The altercation involving Kris Boyd occurred outside our establishment and after the restaurant had closed. Since the onset of the police investigation, we have been fully cooperative with law enforcement and shared the appropriate security footage to assist their inquiry. The safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance and we take tremendous pride in having cultivated a safe and welcoming dining environment for all
