The numbers confirm that Deshaun Watson is no longer an elite player: Is he worth it in fantasy football?

Deshaun Brown stopped being that quarterback who defined games with his passes and strategies to become a shadow of a player. It’s not for lack of quality or volume production. The Browns player is no longer healthy

When we look at Brown’s history in the NFL, we are impressed: his multi-million dollar contract, his great plays and his ability to decide. All that is past glory: no one wants him in fantasy leagues anymore. He doesn’t guarantee points

Deshaun Watson no longer shines… neither running nor throwing

Watson has a guaranteed contract that is quite onerous, not to call it obscene. He still has two seasons remaining on a five-year, fully guaranteed, $230 million deal he signed in March 2022. In short, he still has $46 million for each of the next two seasons.

And there is the problem: a lot of money and little production. A lot of noise and little substance, as the saying goes

Let’s be honest, the numbers don’t lie. Data kills narrative. However you want to say it: Watson doesn’t pass 200 yards through the air in any of his seven starts in 2024. But let’s put his accomplishments in outline form

  • He threw for 164 per game last year
  • Total: 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on the season
  • He suffered 33 sacks
  • The golden ending: he tore his Achilles tendon… Again

The Cleveland Browns haven’t seen production with Watson

Since joining the Cleveland Browns, he has been a shadow of his former self. In three full seasons, he has only one 300-yard game. Just one!

If we talk about completion percentages, it was a total disappointment: he plummeted from a historic 68.7 percent in Houston to a poor 58.2 percent in Cleveland

What’s most concerning is that his average per attempt dropped to 5.3 yards. Yes, that’s right, the numbers of a backup QB

What to do with Deshaun Watson in Fantasy football?

The answer is simple: ignore him. The Browns quarterback’s ADP on platforms like ESPN or Yahoo is not even visible, but rather laughable

Only one percent of users have him on the roster. FantasyPros ranks him as the QB #59, even below confirmed backups. And if the schedule didn’t help: his season finale includes Chicago, Buffalo and Pittsburgh, all three among the toughest defenses for QBs.

Cleveland is stuck… and you don’t have to be. The ones with the guaranteed contract are them, not you.

The Browns have already paid him more than $44 million just in 2025, You’re not obligated to carry that heavy burden. We don’t even know if he’ll play in Week 1.

Conclusion? If you have a heart, pray for him. If you have a fantasy team, stay away from him.
