The NFL is making fun of Travis Kelce for something that happened 8 years ago!

Travis Kelce has spent over a decade establishing himself as one of the most physically dominant players in NFL history, but according to the league’s official social media accounts, his skills on the wrestling mat remain severely underdeveloped.

On Monday, the NFL‘s Instagram account celebrated “3:16 Day”, the unofficial holiday for WWE icon “Stone Cold Steve Austin“, by digging through the archives to find one of Kelce’s most infamous end-zone celebrations.

The clip, which dates back nearly eight years, features Kelce attempting the wrestler’s signature “Stone Cold Stunner” on teammate Anthony Sherman during a 2018 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. The league’s assessment of the vintage footage was blunt, to say the least.

“TRAVIS KELCE HIT THE WORST STONE COLD STUNNER OF ALL TIME,” the NFL wrote to its millions of followers. “Gotta do better Trav (happy 3:16 btw).”

The moment in question occurred after a first-quarter touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes, where Kelce grabbed Sherman and tumbled to the turf in a maneuver that lacked the precision and “snap” usually associated with the wrestling legend.

Retooling the dynasty for a 14th season

While the internet was busy laughing at a moment from his past, Kelce’s present remains firmly focused on extending his storied career in Kansas City.

Despite persistent rumors that he might follow his brother Jason Kelce into retirement, the 36-year-old tight end officially silenced the speculation on Monday by signing a one-year, $12 million contract extension.

The deal ensures his return for a 14th season in 2026, providing much-needed stability for the Kansas City Chiefs offense that finished a disappointing 6-11 last year.

Kelce, who earned his 11th Pro Bowl nod in 2025 with 851 receiving yards, remains the primary safety valve for a recovering Patrick Mahomes.

The front office has been busy surrounding Kelce with new weapons to ensure the 2026 campaign doesn’t mirror the playoff-less frustrations of last season.

In a major free-agency move, the Chiefs secured a commitment from former Seattle Seahawks star Kenneth Walker III to lead the backcourt.

Walker, who was named the Super Bowl LXMVP just last month after a dominant 135-yard performance, is expected to replace Isiah Pacheco as the primary ball-carrier.

This addition, combined with the No. 9 overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, gives Kansas City one of the most overhauled and intriguing rosters in the AFC West.
