The NFL gives Shedeur Sanders the starting role that he is being denied by the Cleveland Browns

The NFL may have just sent a message that the Cleveland Browns themselves have been hesitant to deliver.

While head coach Kevin Stefanski prepares to announce his Week 1 starter, the league’s official online shop has already given rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders a form of recognition usually reserved for household names.

On the NFL Shop’s Cleveland Browns section, Sanders is one of the select players chosen to appear on the cover, joining stars like Myles Garrett and Nick Chubb.

For a late-round draft pick fighting for his roster spot, the gesture is symbolic – a marketing nod that suggests the league sees Sanders as part of the Browns’ immediate identity.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland, the quarterback conversation remains firmly centered on veteran Joe Flacco. Signed as a stabilizing presence last season, Flacco is widely expected to get the nod for Week 1.

Stefanski has confirmed that one of the five quarterbacks currently on the roster will be cut, a move that only tightens the pressure on Sanders.

A preseason that turned heads

Despite the odds, Sanders has put together a preseason campaign that impressed both fans and analysts. His composure in the pocket, accurate short passing, and mobility have drawn attention in a crowded quarterback room.

For many, it is clear that Sanders has showcased enough talent to justify a longer look, even if he is not ready to take over immediately.

The NFL Shop’s decision to spotlight him could be more than just a marketing strategy. It positions Sanders as a player to watch and gives him a platform that no depth chart can diminish.

Even if Stefanski ultimately hands the starting job to Flacco, the rookie has already won a measure of recognition from the league itself.

In a sport where perception often shapes opportunity, Sanders is gaining ground. If the Browns are not quite ready to entrust him with the offense, the NFL seems to be saying that Shedeur Sanders‘ time is coming – and fans should be ready.
