The New York Yankees avoid disaster but cannot afford to be complacent as fans call for Aaron Boone to be fired

The New York Yankees haven’t guaranteed a return to their former glory, but they at least salvaged one game in a series that was already humiliating against the Boston Red Sox. The 7-2 victory doesn’t silence the constant criticism faced daily by Aaron Boone, nor does it secure his position as the team’s manager.

With just a few weeks left in the season, the Yankees broke their archrival’s hot streak, but it’s time to start thinking about the immediate future.

A win to snap the Red Sox’s streak

With two home runs from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham, the Yankees ended the Red Sox‘s eight-game winning streak against them, bringing their record to 70-60, just half a game behind their divisional rival (71-60) in the American League Wild Card race.

The Yankees also avoided being swept by the Red Sox in a series of four or more games for the first time since 1939, a morale boost to regroup and push forward.

Aaron Boone’s team now faces a series against the Washington Nationals, followed by a matchup against the Chicago White Sox-two teams struggling this season, offering an opportunity to gain ground in the postseason race.

On September 12, 13, and 14, the Yankees will face the Red Sox again, potentially in a more critical moment with a playoff berth on the line.
