The most questionable deal on the Buffalo Bills’ payroll

The season 2025-26 is going to be a challenging one, where the Buffalo Bills are assembling a competitive squad for the quest for the Vince Lombardi trophy. The team is working hard this offseason, trying to reach their best level, and therefore showed the best performance at the start of the season next September.

In recent seasons, they have come close to reaching the ultimate stage, the Super Bowl, but have fallen short of securing a shot at the coveted trophy. Now, the Bills will have another shot at fulfilling that dream of reaching their fifth Super Bowl final and becoming the new NFL champions for the first time in their history.

Players like Russell Wilson, Matt Milano, Jaxson Dart, Keon Coleman, or the recently added Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore want to make the upcoming season one to remember. However, as is often the case, controversy surrounds parts of the roster. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel, in particular, will need to prove that his contract is justified as scrutiny builds around his value.

The worst contract on the Buffalo Bills roster

Curtis Samuel joined the Bills in the offseason of 2024, hoping his performances with the Commanders would carry over to the Bills. Nevertheless, things did not go as planned as the wide receiver played 14 games in the 2024 season, just scoring 1 touchdown and receiving 253 yards. For this performance, he has fallen down the depth chart. Now, Curtis is entering his second season of the 3-year contract that he signed.

For that reason, Brandon Ray from ‘Fansided’ considers his deal the worst on the Buffalo Bills roster. In his analysis, Ray acknowledges that injuries have impacted his development, but argues that his performance metrics remain far from promising or the expected ones for the team.

“I understand that Samuel was dealing with injuries last season, but for him to only put up 253 receiving yards and one touchdown in the regular season is completely unacceptable,” Ray wrote, highlighting Samuel’s underwhelming statistics.

“Samuel’s cap hit is over $9 million (8th highest on the roster), and his dead cap hit is over $12 million. Long story short, the Bills are stuck with this contract for at least one more season with the potential to get out of it next year (if Samuel once again disappoints).” Ray expressed his belief regarding the 28-year-old wide receiver.

Curtis Samuel’s Contract Isn’t the Worst in the League

For this upcoming season, Curtis Samuel still has work to do to win over Buffalo Bills fans, a team that is not so happy that this player continues on the roster of the team. despite the significant contract Samuel is earning, his deal isn’t the worst in the league.

Dashaun Watson, from the Cleveland Browns, is getting paid $230 million over a five-year deal. However, his performance is far from outstanding due that since 2022, he has appeared in just 19 games, and he is expected to miss the entire 2025 season because an Achilles injury.
