The Mexican player who is overshadowing Cristiano Ronaldo and already surpasses him in the Saudi league

Reserve a conciliation with Javier Aguirre, Julian Quinones is raising his hand to show that he has the merits to be called up by the Mexican national team to play in the 2026 World Cup. The good performances he is having with Al-Qadisiyah in the Saudi league even overshadow Cristiano Ronaldo.

And it is no exaggeration. Quiñones steals the spotlight over the Portuguese in terms of the scoring charts. In the victory against Al-Okhdood, the Colombian was the star of the show with a hat-trick. His three goals also earned him second place in the scoring charts with 21 goals, two less than the leader, Britain’s Ivan Toney, and three more than Cristiano, who is third on the list with 18.

  • Ivan Toney (Al Ahli): 23 goals
  • Julian Quinones (Al-Qadisiya): 21 goals
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr): 18 goals

The three of them are vying for the top scorer title. However, as has been the case in recent matchdays, the fight seems to be between Toney and Quiñones. On the other hand, Julian shows that he is going through an extraordinary moment in Saudi Arabian soccer that allows him to arrive with rhythm and aim to the World Cup. Of course, as long as Aguirre takes him into account.

Quiñones, a positive reinforcement for Al-Qadisiyah

The season the Mexican is experiencing is paying off for his team. His performance on the pitch is reflected in goals, but also in his contribution to positioning the club as one of the most competitive in the tournament

  • He has scored 14 goals in 19 games played this season
  • Al-Qadisiyah is in fourth place overall with 50 points
  • He has converted three hat-tricks in the current tournament

Ivan Toney, the unsung hero of the Saudi league

The top scorer is this English striker from Al-Ahli. His career in England was irregular; he belonged to nine teams between 2013 and 2024. He was never able to establish himself as a solid or stable player. He wandered between the fourth, third and second divisions, as well as the Premier League.

In 2021, he had to choose between the Jamaican national team and the English national team. He opted for the British representative. At the time it was said that he had made a mistake because he would never have opportunities; however, his good performance in the Saudi league opens the door to a possible World Cup call-up. So far, Toney has scored 46 goals in two seasons, a figure that at least gives him the possibility of being a substitute in the World Cup.
