The Mets join the race for Eugenio Suarez amid rumors with Yankees and Cubs

Eugenio Suarez, leader in National League home runs, could be traded before July 31. Mets, Yankees and Cubs are emerging as his main suitors

With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, rumors are intensifying. One of the names that is being bandied about is Venezuelan third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who has become a coveted piece for teams such as the New York Mets, Yankees, Cubs and even the Seattle Mariners. His offensive talent and experience make him one of the main targets in this market.

Eugenio Suarez: a hitter in his prime in MLB

  • The name Eugenio Suarez is not new in conversations about offensive power in the Major Leagues, but in 2025 he is having an exceptional season. He was selected to the All-Star Game and currently leads the National League with 36 home runs and 86 runs batted in, putting him on track to break his own home run record (49 in 2019 with Cincinnati).
  • Suarez not only hits with power, but also brings veteran leadership, postseason experience and consistency, something several serious-minded teams are looking for to bolster their lineup.

Mets, Yankees and Cubs: the bidding for Venezuelan Eugenio Suarez

  1. The New York Mets enter the conversation: They have joined the list of teams interested in acquiring Suarez. Jeff Passan of ESPN noted that the Mets are one of the “suitors in abundance”, indicating that the Queens team is seriously considering adding power to its lineup before the trade deadline on July 31.
  2. The Yankees also raise their hand: The New York Yankees, known for their history of aggressive moves, have also shown interest. In a season in which their offense has had its ups and downs, adding a hitter like Suarez could be just what they need to get back on the winning track.
  3. Chicago Cubs: According to reports from the New York Post, they are looking to remain competitive in a National League Central division that has been open for much of the campaign.

Arizona Diamondbacks and Eugenio Suarez

The Arizona Diamondbacks, who currently own Suarez’s contract, are at a crossroads. With a 50-52 record and 5.5 games out of the last wild-card spot, it is unclear whether they will be buyers or sellers at this deadline.

They have several players who could leave: Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Josh Naylor and of course, Suarez. They are all in the final year of their contracts, and if Arizona decides to bet on the future, it could trade several of these pieces to get top-level prospects.

Eugenio Suarez seems to be the most valuable. His offensive production, coupled with the fact that he is a reliable third baseman, makes his value sky high. It would not be surprising if a “bidding war” were to develop between the Mets, Yankees and Cubs, which would further raise his price.
