The Mets have already begun talks with Pete Alonso, although the player will listen to more offers

The New York Mets’ fans are living in anguish. One of their favorite players, Pete Alonso, is possibly enjoying his last moments with the New York team. While it is true that season after season there are rumors of his departure, it seems that now it is serious that he will change teams.

Just remember what happened in the previous campaign. During the market period, the Blue Jays put $100 million on the table to secure his services. In the back-and-forth of negotiations, Toronto did not move any further and withdrew the offer. Alonso ended up staying with the Mets on a $54 million two-year contract with an opt-out clause.

That first notice of high interest in the first baseman could be replicated these days with more teams wanting him in their squads. The difference from last year is that the offers for him should be higher than the $54 million he signed with the New York franchise and not less than the $100 million offered by the Blue Jays.

Mets president of operations David Stearns told the media that the team will also bid to retain him because they consider him a key part of the roster, both for his power at the plate and for the sense of protection he provides to Juan Soto.

Regardless of the offer he may hear in New York, Alonso is open to dialogue with bidders who want him as a reinforcement next season.

Possible doors for Pete Alonso this offseason

Mets. They have a great contact producer at home with 38 home runs and 126 RBIs, especially from the right side.

San Francisco Giants. Their talent, Bryce Eldridge, requires more time to shine, so they are looking for experience on offense.

Boston Red Sox. Their main target is Alex Bregman, but their plan B would be Alonso. In addition, Pete’s wife is from that city and that would influence the decision.

Seattle Mariners. Unless Josh Naylor recovers, Alonso is among their emergency plan possibilities.

Baltimore Orioles. The rumor has grown that they are willing to open the checkbook for Pete, because they want a powerful hitter.

Los Angeles Angels. They live at a crossroads. They have areas to fill, but they are also looking to sign a proven player like Alonso.

Blue Jays. With Vlad Guerrero Jr. on a $500 million contract and George Springer being effective at the plate, it is doubtful they will bid for him again.

New York Yankees. With Ben Rice and Giancarlo Stanton glimpsed in a future long-term scenario, Alonso would not be of interest to them. But they can play a trick on the Mets.

Philadelphia Phillies. Their priority is to sign Kyle Schwarber. If that does not happen, Alonso comes in as the alternative.
