The New York Mets are not stopping in their ambition to put together the best possible team for the 2025 MLB season, and now they are looking to strengthen the team’s bullpen with the arrival of left-hander Tanner Scott, who already had a meeting with the team, The Post reported.
So far, the reliever market has been slow, with several big-name pitchers such as Carlos Estevez, who is being sought by Toronto and Cincinnati, Kirby Yates and Jeff Hoffman, although the latter is looking to make the conversion to starting pitcher.
In addition, there are Kenley Jansen, Andrew Kittredge, Jose Leclerc and A.J. Minter, who are just some of the 40 relievers looking to land a contract in Major League Baseball.
The Mets were willing to go two years with Joc Pederson (but not the $37 million he received from Texas) and looked at Teoscar Hernandez in case the deal with the Dodgers that everyone expected fell through, which made them turn to Scott.
Who is Tanner Scott?
The 30-year-old left-handed reliever played for the Marlins and Padres in 2024 and had 22 saves on the year, 18 with Miami and four more with San Diego. His MLB ERA is 3.56, and he has 55 saves in a career that began in 2017 with the Baltimore Orioles.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have long been the favorites for Japanese superstar pitcher Roki Sasaki, but some hopeful executives wonder if the turmoil at the top of San Diego’s hierarchy could be a stumbling block for the team.
While this is simply speculation, the Padres have clearly changed course since the untimely death of Peter Seidler, going from one of the biggest spenders in baseball to the biggest payroll cutter
The Padres are listening to proposals to trade Luis Arraez and Dylan Cease, but may end up keeping both.
The Arizona Diamondbacks would like to trade Jordan Montgomery, which would free up money for a major reliever, assuming they only pay half of his $22 million salary
Anyway, the D’backs are a big winner this winter after the surprise signing of Corbin Burnes.
