Pete Alonso and Starling Marte led the New York Mets to a spectacular 4-2 comeback victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday in the third and decisive game in the National League Wild Card Series and everyone is scared of the team from the ‘Big Apple’.
Alonso had two hits throughout the opening round of the playoffs, but the important one was the three-run homer with one away in the top of the ninth inning of Game 3. He had nine at-bats in the series.
Milwaukee hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning to make everyone believe that they could seal the win, but Devin Williams couldn’t close the door and allowed four runs in the ninth inning and the Brewers are now eliminated.
The bracket is set
The New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers were the only teams in action on Thursday, as the rest of the Wild Card Series finished in two games after sweeps took place in three of four matchups.
The Kansas City Royals eliminated the Baltimore Royals in two very close games, and the Detroit Tigers defeated twice the Houston Astros in the American League. The San Diego Padres took care of the Atlanta Braves as they were the only team to advance as a home team in the National League.
The Royals will now face the New York Yankees and the Tigers will square off the Cleveland Guardians in the American League. The Padres will travel a couple of hours north to face the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Mets will meet the Philadelphia Phillies in the Divisional Series, with all Game 1s to be played o Saturday.
