A new royal biography has claimed that Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, once sought to spark a romance with golfing legend Tiger Woods – going so far as to travel 1500 miles in an attempt to meet him.
Ferguson, who divorced the disgraced Prince Andrew in 1996 after a decade of marriage, reportedly confided in broadcaster Piers Morgan that she found the multiple major tournament winner “gorgeous.”
The claims come as part of a book named Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by the veteran royal biographer, Andrew Lownie, excerpts of which have been obtained by the Daily Mail.
Lownie writes that the duchess planned to spend time with Woods after his victory on the professional circuit, telling Morgan she would “follow him around the [golf] course for a bit and see how I get on.”
The Duchess and Woods did meet, however, and were photographed embracing in 1997 following his win at the Byron Nelson tournament in Texas and their connection endured, celebrating online in 2019 after Tiger‘s Masters victory.
The biography claims the trip to see the golfing icon was not purely about Woods, as Ferguson also expressed interest in meeting John F. Kennedy Jr., son of the assassinated United States president.
According to Lownie, she asked her staff to determine whether Kennedy was in New York, and upon learning he was, invited him to meet for drinks or dinner at her hotel. Kennedy reportedly accepted, but the meeting never took place.
The author’s account suggests that Ferguson‘s interest in Woods was part of a broader pattern of pursuing prominent figures following her royal marriage’s collapse. The biography alleges she also “plagued” actor Kevin Costner with “raunchy phone calls”.
The 65-year-old shares two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with Prince Andrew, whom she met in childhood, became engaged to in 1986 and was married to for a decade.
The book situates these episodes within a period of transition for Sarah, during which she was attempting to redefine her public image while navigating life outside the formal structures of the monarchy.

Prince Harry and Prince Andrew are expected to retain their royal titles even if Prince William ascends to the throne, according to an insider, despite neither undertaking official royal duties for several years.
Their status is unlikely to change without formal legislative action and the source told News Nation that William “literally can’t do that without an act of Parliament”.
The future king has no intention of pursuing such a move, as it would draw further attention to the controversies surrounding both men, and King Charles, the current monarch, has no plans to strip them of their titles.
Public speculation over the issue has persisted since Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and Andrew withdrew from public life in 2019 for separate, but scandalous, issues.
