The Los Angeles Dodgers are the most dominant team of the decade, and the numbers prove it

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees are like the rock stars of Major League Baseball (MLB), two teams with a history so big it’s hard to top. Since moving from Brooklyn to LA in 1958, the Dodgers have been a force to reckon with, and now in 2025, they’re gearing up for their 23rd World Series (26th pennants)-trailing only the Yankees’ whopping 41 appearances, according to MLB.com. That’s a pretty cool stat, showing they’ve been in the game for the long haul, racking up eight World Series wins, with their first coming back in 1955 as the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Tonight, they’re bringing that old-school vibe into a modern era, hitting their fifth World Series in the last nine years-all during the Wild Card era that kicked off in 1994, per ESPN. It’s a sign they know how to roll with the punches and keep winning, even with tougher playoff rules. Getting to the 2025 World Series wasn’t a walk in the park, but the Dodgers made it look easy with a 4-0 sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS).

This marks just the second time they’ve pulled off a four-game sweep in a best-of-seven series, the first being their legendary 1963 World Series smackdown against the Yankees, per MLB Network. Back in ’63, Sandy Koufax was the hero, shutting down the Yankees with a 4-0 series win, and now, over 60 years later, the Dodgers have done it again. Beating the Brewers this way shows they’ve got that same killer instinct, dominating from start to finish.

The real MVP of this run has to be Shohei Ohtani, who put on a show that might just be the best individual performance ever in MLB playoffs. In Game 3 of the NLCS, Ohtani went 3-for-3 at the plate, smashing three home runs, driving in three runs, and even taking a walk, while also pitching 6.0 innings, giving up just two hits, no earned runs, and striking out 10 batters. It blows away stuff like Reggie Jackson’s three-homer game in 1977, and has fans buzzing about his two-way talent. Thanks to him, the Dodgers are a top pick to take on the American League champ.

Dodgers match history with rare 4-0 sweep, eye 9th title

This recent success, with five World Series trips since 2017, shows how smart manager Dave Roberts has been. He’s used the Wild Card format like a pro, getting the team into the playoffs and pushing them far. The 2025 squad, powered by Ohtani and a solid lineup, mixes that classic Dodgers spirit with today’s baseball smarts.

They’ve won 93 games in the regular season, topping the NL West, and now they’re eyeing their ninth title. That 23rd World Series appearance keeps them right in the Yankees’ league, setting up a rivalry that’s as exciting as ever. Whether they win it all or not, the Dodgers are proving they’re still one of the greats, ready to make more history.
