The Los Angeles Lakers, without Slovenian Luka Doncic, crashed on Saturday at the home of Tiago Splitter’s Portland Trail Blazers (132-116).
The Lakers competed in Portland without Doncic, who was sidelined with a groin problem after scoring 39 points in the last loss to the Charlotte Hornets. He was joined on the sidelines by Deandre Ayton, Jaxon Hayes and Austin Reaves.
Without Doncic, who is averaging 33.6 points per game this year, JJ Redick’s team lost their fifth game in the last six, leaving them sixth in the West (24-15).Shaedon Sharpe led the Trail Blazers in scoring in the win over the Lakers with 25 points, while Jerami Grant and Caleb Love each contributed 22 points.
LeBron James was close to a triple-double for the Lakers with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, on a night when Marcus Smart was the Lakers’ leading scorer with 25 points.
