The Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce may not be ready to head back to a Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs crashed and burned in their quest for another Super Bowl last season, falling agonizingly short in the big game. Despite their star-studded roster, glaring flaws-especially a shaky offensive line-derailed their three-peat dreams in 2024. The Chiefs masked their issues with wins during the regular season, but the Super Bowl exposed their vulnerabilities in brutal fashion. Now, with the 2025 NFL season looming, Kansas City is on a mission to patch up their weaknesses and reclaim their throne.

Offensive Line Woes: The Chiefs’ Achilles’ Heel

Last season, the Chiefs’ offensive line was a rollercoaster of inconsistency, with the left tackle position as their kryptonite. Shuffling players like a bad poker hand, they never found stability, and it cost them dearly in the Super Bowl. Philadelphia’s relentless pass rush feasted on Patrick Mahomes, proving that even a generational quarterback can’t shine without protection. The Chiefs’ failure to address this during the 2024 season left fans fuming and analysts scratching their heads.

Offseason Chaos: Losses, Trades, and Bold Moves

When the offseason kicked off, the Chiefs faced a glaring question: how do you fix a broken offensive line while juggling a tight salary cap? Things got messier when they traded a key offensive lineman and lost several impact players on both sides of the ball. But Kansas City didn’t sit idly by. They made waves in free agency, snagging a new left tackle to plug their glaring hole, hoping to finally stabilize Mahomes’ blind side.

2025 NFL Draft: Doubling Down on the Trenches

The 2025 NFL Draft was Kansas City’s chance to right their wrongs, and they didn’t disappoint. The Chiefs attacked their offensive line early, drafting a high-upside lineman to anchor the unit. They didn’t stop there, bolstering their defensive line to ensure Jalen Hurts and other elite quarterbacks feel the heat in 2025. FOX Sports analyst Geoff Schwartz gave the Chiefs high marks for their draft strategy.

“They didn’t have much cap space flexibility,” Schwartz said. “The Chiefs aren’t big free-agency spenders, but they hit the tackle spot hard in both free agency and the draft. They drafted smart, targeting positions of need. Their defensive line needs to step up too-they barely touched Hurts in the Super Bowl.”

Hidden Weaknesses and Rashee Rice’s Return

While the offensive line grabbed headlines, the Chiefs’ defensive line was equally culpable in their Super Bowl loss, failing to pressure Hurts. Schwartz pointed out another X-factor: the potential return of wide receiver Rashee Rice. “If Rice comes back healthy-and navigates any suspension-he’s like a free-agent addition,” Schwartz noted. “That’s a massive boost for an offense that missed him last season.”

The Road Ahead: Super Bowl or Bust?

The Chiefs’ offseason moves show they’re not content with past glory. With a revamped offensive line, a beefed-up defense, and Rice’s possible return, Kansas City is gearing up for a fiery redemption tour in 2025. But questions linger: Can the new left tackle hold up? Will the defensive line finally disrupt elite passers? Chiefs Kingdom is buzzing with anticipation, but only time will tell if these changes spark another Super Bowl run.
