The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes find the new Travis Kelce in Miami without compromise their needs in the NFL Draft

Less than a week away from discovering which eight picks the Kansas City Chiefs will have in theNFL Draft, opinions are divided about what Patrick Mahomes’ team, eager to seek revenge in the new season after their painful loss in Super Bowl LIX, should do.

The Chiefs will have the chance to make a selection in each of the first four rounds, but then won’t pick again until the seventh round, where they’ll have three turns, from which they must maximize value to reach their fourth consecutive Super Bowl.

Why seek more weapons for Patrick Mahomes?

It’s no secret, especially for the Chiefs, that Travis Kelce will likely retire soon, and it’s time to find a potential replacement for the boyfriend of the hugely popular American singer Taylor Swift.

That’s why we revisit a Mock Draft by Mike Renner, a CBS Sports writer, which suggests they’ll use a second-round pick to select Miami Hurricanes tight end Elijah Arroyo, with the goal of grooming him alongside the future Hall of Famer.

It’s no secret that Kansas City is also linked to other players in this position, like Mason Taylor, though he’s projected to hear his name called in the first round.

This strategy would be advantageous, as it would give them flexibility to address other team needs, such as protection for Patrick Mahomes, which, after what we saw in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, is clearly a priority.

Arroyo, from the Miami Hurricanes, took a significant leap in quality during his final year of college football, partly due to playing alongside Cam Ward. He broke his own personal records and gained significant momentum heading into the Draft.

In 2024, he recorded 35 receptions for 560 yards and seven touchdowns, with his longest reception being 74 yards, demonstrating his ability to run deep routes.

If selected, Arroyo would begin his career with the Chiefs as the third-string tight end, behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray in the depth chart, with an eye toward the former Hurricane eventually taking over the position full-time.
