Francisco Alvarez received a huge ovation on his return with the New York Mets to Major League Baseball after his stint in Minor League Baseball (MiLB).

The catcher was called up to MLB by the Mets on Monday, July 21, 2025 before the game against the Los Angeles Angels.

How was the huge ovation for Francisco Alvarez in his return with the New York Mets?

This was the huge ovation that Francisco Alvarez received in his first appearance at bat at the home plate of Citi Field on Monday, July 21, 2025 in the game between the Mets and the Los Angeles Angels in New York.

Why did the Mets bring back Francisco Alvarez?

Francisco Alvarez destroyed the Triple-A International League with the Syracuse team in the Mets’ Minor League system. In 19 games with Syracuse since he was sent down, Francisco Alvarez hit 11 home runs and drove in 24 runs. His OPS was an astonishing 1.129, and defensively he has shown much more calm and control than he did in the Major Leagues.

What do the Mets need from Francisco Alvarez?

They need his bat, they need his energy, they need him to live up to the potential and promise he once brought as the game’s top prospect before he arrived in 2022 in MLB, but he has to earn his place and become an important part of the Mets for the second half of the season.

Francisco Alvarez should do what he was doing in the minors over the last month at the plate, and be just what he was, which got him to MLB in 2022. He’s still very young, so he has plenty of time to fulfill that promise. But the time is now. In this championship race, right now.
