One of the biggest storylines heading into the new NBA season is Kevin Durant’s move to the Houston Rockets, marking the start of a new chapter in his Hall of Fame-caliber career. After two productive seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Durant brings his veteran leadership and championship experience to a young Rockets squad eager to return to contention.

Durant’s time in Phoenix was short but impactful. During his tenure, he formed a strong connection with the Suns’ passionate fan base, leaving behind a lasting impression both on and off the court. Widely regarded as one of the best players of the past decade, Durant is a two-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors and a 15-time All-Star. Now, he arrives at the Toyota Center determined to guide Houston to its first title since 1995.

Despite his new colors, Durant hasn’t forgotten his Phoenix roots. The star forward continues to interact with Suns fans through social media, sending messages of gratitude and encouragement. His gestures have earned praise from fans and former teammates alike, reinforcing Durant’s reputation as both a fierce competitor and a genuine ambassador of the game.

Kevin Durant still engaging with Phoenix Suns fans

With the 2025-26 NBA season fast approaching, the Phoenix Suns are finalizing preparations to remain competitive on the court. The team has shown encouraging signs during preseason play, winning two of their three games, including victories over the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets, while dropping a close rematch to the Nets.

Following Kevin Durant’s departure to the Houston Rockets, Suns fans are eager yet realistic about the team’s future. Many acknowledge that the franchise is entering a rebuilding phase, focused on creating a new culture and identity. Despite tempered expectations, there’s optimism that the fresh energy surrounding the roster could translate into steady progress throughout the season.

Durant, meanwhile, continues to engage with his former fan base. When one Suns supporter posted, “No expectations = better vibes. Enjoy the season, brother,” Durant responded with a confident message: “Suns won the trade!” His remark quickly gained traction on social media, sparking excitement among fans and suggesting that, even from afar, Durant still holds respect and affection for Phoenix.

Kevin Durant shares honest feelings on joining the Houston Rockets

Since joining the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant has been candid about his departure from the Phoenix Suns. Following the trade, the former MVP spoke openly about the split, saying, “They wanted me to go. They got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted, so we can move on. Good luck to them moving forward, I’ll always remember my time there, but we’re on to something else.”

Recently, Durant offered deeper insight into his feelings about how the trade unfolded. “Initially, I was a little upset because I felt like we built a solid relationship, me and the Phoenix Suns,” he explained. “To hear that from a different party was kind of upsetting.”

Despite the emotional exit, Durant has chosen to focus on the future. As he begins a new chapter in Houston, the veteran star seems motivated to channel those mixed emotions into leadership and performance – aiming to lift the Rockets back into playoff contention.
