The horrible statistic that sinks the Yankees among the worst with runners in scoring position

The New York Yankees, one of the most iconic and successful franchises in MLB, are going through a worrying offensive slump in the 2025 season.

Despite boasting a high-caliber roster and World Series expectations, the team ranks among the worst in Major League Baseball in one of the most important metrics: batting with runners in scoring position (RISP).

They face a major lack of productivity

The Yankees’ poor performance with men on second or third base has been a constant in recent weeks. According to statistics updated to June 24, the team is at the bottom of the league in terms of batting average with runners in scoring position, a category that often defines success or failure in close games

The inefficiency in these situations has led the team to waste multiple scoring opportunities, even when its pitching staff keeps games close. This lack of offensive power is beginning to weigh on the standings, and raises doubts about the team’s ability to compete in the postseason.

How serious is the problem for the Yankees?

The difference between contending teams and those that fall by the wayside is often decided in the details. And for the Yankees, their Achilles’ heel this season has been precisely their failure to execute when it matters most.

Key players such as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have struggled to connect in pressure situations, while the offense in general seems disconnected when it has the opportunity to do damage.

In addition to the low batting average with RISP, there are other negative statistics, such as the high number of runners left on base and the lack of extra-base hits in crucial moments.

Yankees will have to make important decisions

The coaching staff, led by manager Aaron Boone, now faces the challenge of righting the ship before it’s too late. Solutions may include adjustments to the batting order, changes in offensive strategy or even roster moves before the trade deadline.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ fans do not hide their frustration. Accustomed to a dominant team, the fans demand immediate results. And the organization knows that, without improving its performance with runners in scoring position, any title aspirations will remain just a dream.
