Because the season is still ongoing, they are the only two candidates the team can formally interview right now.
The Giants are also keeping a close eye on the AFC North. Kevin Stefanski, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, and Zac Taylor have all drawn interest, with Stefanski viewed internally as the top target. While prying away a sitting head coach is difficult, it is not unheard of when the timing and circumstances align.
As for Belichick, his immediate NFL return looks unlikely. He remains with the UNC Tar Heels, where the program believes another year could help establish long-term stability despite a disappointing 2025 campaign.
