The Giants are looking for Jaxson Dart’s new head coach: Who’s at the top of the list?

The 2025 NFL season was not what the New York Giants had hoped for. The arrival of veteran Russell Wilson under the guidance of an offensive mastermind like Brian Daboll raised fans’ hopes. Five months later, the team is searching for its new head coach.

Daboll arrived in New York for the 2022 season, taking over from Joe Judge, who only lasted two years at the helm. Daboll had some good times with the team and was even named the AP Coach of the Year in 2022.

Under his leadership, the Giants made the playoffs three times, and Daboll finished his tenure in New York with a record of 61 wins, 20 losses, and one tie. However, the 2025 season was a nightmare.

Wilson never found his footing at quarterback and was benched in Week 4. Daboll was fired in Week 10, and Mike Kafka has been the interim head coach ever since, but he hasn’t fared any better. Thus, the Giants will have no choice but to enter the market.

The Giants’ top three candidates

Analysts like Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated and Jordan Raanan of ESPN have compiled extensive lists of candidates who could succeed Daboll, but two stand out.

First, both analysts named Mike McCarthy. The former Cowboys head coach has been out of work since leaving Dallas after the 2024 season and seems ideal for the job.

Both Orr and Raanan also mentioned Antonio Pierce. Pierce was also unemployed in 2024 after leaving the Las Vegas Raiders due to poor results.

Ranaan also brought up the name of the Broncos’ current offensive coordinator, Vance Joseph. Joseph also has previous head coaching experience, having led Denver in 2017 and 2018.

The Giants are an intriguing destination for any coach

Despite being one of the worst teams in the NFL this season, the Giants have a young, talented core that could be attractive to almost any coach.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skateebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers anchor the offense. Defensively, linebackers Abdul Carter and Brian Burns stand out.

This Sunday marks the end of the NFL regular season, and the coaching market will open with the dreaded Black Monday. Only then will the Giants’ uncertain future begin to clear.
