Giulia Gwinn, a Bayern Munich player who in 2023 turned down an offer to pose nude for Playboy, has presented her autobiography ‘Write Your Own Story’.
I constantly get pictures of naked men. Supposed pictures of penises. This kind of thing constantly pops up in my Instagram inbox
The German footballer, who has been capped 20 times at senior level, is determined to stay true to the title of her autobiography and forge her own legacy as a woman and professional footballer.
The photos are always from anonymous accounts. I delete the photos and messages, and report the accounts. It’s harassment, plain and simple, of poor quality
Giulia Gwinn, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Best Young Player and two-time Germany Women’s National Player of the Year (2019 and 2024), acknowledges in her book that this process is difficult, especially because of sexist and sexist behaviour.
“I constantly get pictures of naked men. Supposed pictures of penises. This kind of thing constantly pops up in my Instagram inbox. The photos are always from anonymous accounts. I delete the photos and messages, and report the accounts. It’s harassment, just poor quality,” explained the footballer.
Giulia Gwinn: “The Playboy photos are beautiful and aesthetic. But they’re not for me”
Giulia Gwinn also shares that she has received numerous offers from Playboy to pose without clothes.
“Giulia Gwinn is an outstanding athlete, and also a beautiful young woman, so she is a very interesting personality for Playboy,” said Florian Boitin, president of Playboy Europe.
The footballer acknowledges that “the Playboy ones are beautiful and aesthetic photos. But they’re not for me. Posting a bikini photo on my account is fine, but anything else exceeds my personal limits.”
Giulia Gwinn’s goal with her biography: “I want to inspire, especially young women”
At the book launch, Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich’s honorary president, described Giulia Gwinn as “a wonderful ambassador for our club and for German football. She is a great personality and a role model, and not only for girls and women.”
Giulia Gwinn explains in her biography the stages of her personal development: how she had to overcome adversity as a young girl and how her two cruciate ligament ruptures helped her to mature.
“I want to inspire, especially young women, that there is not just one path, that they should always be brave, believe in themselves and then they can write their own story,” explained the footballer.
