The favorites to reach the 2025 NFL postseason

The 2025 season is drawing ever closer, and with it comes the wave of predictions from analysts, fans, and betting houses alike about which teams are likely to secure a postseason berth. Oddsmakers are already setting their projections, identifying those they believe have the strongest chances of reaching the games that will decide who plays in the Super Bowl.

There are always favorites among devoted fans and casual observers. A quick look at recent statistics reveals the dominant franchises of the past few years-those with the highest probability of making another playoff run.

Possessing a powerful quarterback who understands the game, reads defenses with ease, and displays remarkable resilience can be the foundation for a deep postseason push. Of course, the defensive side cannot be overlooked. As the saying goes, “Offense wins games and sells tickets, but defense wins championships.”

Ultimately, success in the NFL comes down to striking the perfect balance between offense and defense, especially in a league as physically demanding as this one. Teams with strong front offices -capable of drafting wisely and making smart free-agent acquisitions year after year-tend to sustain competitiveness and build championship-caliber rosters.

Favorites in the AFC

Several contenders in the American Football Conference have all the talent necessary not only to reach the postseason but also to fight for a Super Bowl appearance once there.

Last season, despite some doubting their chances of returning to the title game, the Kansas City Chiefs once again reached the promised land. The team battled through multiple key injuries, but ultimately fell to the speed and intensity of the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense, who overwhelmed them in a decisive 40-22 victory.

The Buffalo Bills now have a golden opportunity to finally make it to the big game. With a stacked roster, they are hoping not to fall short yet again. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are counting on quarterback Lamar Jackson’s dynamic playmaking to carry them to Super Sunday.

Here are the projected AFC postseason teams:

  1. Buffalo Bills
  2. Baltimore Ravens
  3. Kansas City Chiefs
  4. Houston Texans
  5. Cincinnati Bengals
  6. Los Angeles Chargers
  7. Denver Broncos

Favorites in the NFC

In a result that surprised few-given their talent and roster depth-the Philadelphia Eagles completely neutralized the Chiefs’ offense in last season’s championship game. The question now is whether they can repeat the feat in 2025. The odds are strongly in their favor.

The Detroit Lions have played with grit and determination, yet their postseason runs have repeatedly ended in disappointment. This year brings another chance to reach the Super Bowl without stumbling along the way.

According to betting houses, the NFC’s playoff field is expected to look like this:

  1. Philadelphia Eagles
  2. Detroit Lions
  3. San Francisco 49ers
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  5. Washington Commanders
  6. Los Angeles Rams
  7. Green Bay Packers
