The Eagles’ NFC crown is under threat as Commanders close the gap

The Washington Commanders are no longer a team of the future, they’re a team of now. After leaping from four wins in 2023 to a stunning 13-win season in 2024, Washington has launched itself into the heart of the NFC title conversation. What began as a rebuilding effort has turned into a bold campaign to challenge the NFL’s elite.

While many franchises might settle for a playoff berth after such a dramatic improvement, the Commanders have set their sights higher. With star quarterback Jayden Daniels entering his second year and a coaching staff that remains fully intact, the team has the continuity and the momentum to aim for more than just postseason appearances.

Eyes set on Philadelphia’s throne

There’s no question about who owns the NFC for now, the Philadelphia Eagles. Fresh off a Super Bowl win, the Eagles boast one of the league’s deepest and most experienced rosters. But in the same division, the Commanders are making moves that suggest they’re coming for that crown.

CBS Sports recently argued that Washington has positioned itself to go toe-to-toe with its archrival. The offseason additions of wide receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil are major upgrades that give Daniels the tools to succeed at the highest level. The message is clear: this team isn’t content with second place.

“If Washington is in full win-now mode,” CBS Sports wrote, “no one would be shocked if they push the rival Eagles as NFC heavyweights.”

A new NFC power could emerge

Consistency is key in the NFL, and that’s the next test for Washington. Can they build on their breakout year and prove they belong among the league’s true contenders? The pieces are there, a dynamic young quarterback, elite new weapons, and a hungry defense that played with fire last season.

The Eagles might still be the team to beat, but for the first time in years, the Commanders are more than just a threat. They’re a real danger to the status quo. And if they play to their potential, Philadelphia‘s reign over the NFC might not last much longer.
