The Eagles can steal Micah Parsons using the same playbook they used to bring in Saquon Barkley

When Saquon Barkley slipped through the New York Giants’ fingers after they chose not to match the Eagles’ offer, Philadelphia jumped – and Barkley reaped the results, earning MVP honors and a Super Bowl in his first season.

As analysts note, the Birds now find themselves with the chance to replicate that move-this time targeting Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons.

The Barkley acquisition provides a compelling case study. The Giants undervalued Barkley, trimming their offer by a modest amount – just $1.5 million in guaranteed money – and watched him flourish in Philadelphia.

By extending a three-year, $37.75 million deal (with $26 million guaranteed), the Eagles transformed their offense and captured football’s biggest prize.

As sports writer Alicia de Artola emphasized in a recent piece, “When all is said and done, the biggest asset for the Philadelphia Eagles might be Jerry Jones.”

That recounts the exact moment Dallas opened the door to Parsons-mirroring the Giants’ misstep with Barkley. Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones chose to publicly chisel Parsons’ reputation, prompting questions around his team loyalty and value. This fallout echoes the Giants’ misstep with Barkley – and Philadelphia is clearly watching.

Parsons could fit Philly

Just as Barkley coming to Philadelphia felt like destiny – Parsons’ rumored departure from the Cowboys across the red River seems increasingly plausible. He’s already connected to Barkley from their Penn State days, and recent reports indicate he stands open to playing beyond Dallas.

If the Eagles decide Parsons is worth the price – potentially a historic $40 million per year – they’d have all the assets: a championship mindset, elite defensive front, and an owner unafraid to break the bank for game-changing talent.

Three years ago, Barkley arrived as a replacement-level player the Giants overlooked. In 2025, Parsons may fit the same mold. A 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, he still offers top-tier explosiveness – if he wants out, the Eagles could be sanctum for his next chapter.

This strategy aligns with Philly’s philosophy: act fast when value meets opportunity. As Barkley leader impresario Howie Roseman has shown, they’re unafraid to pivot.

What the Eagles can offer

The current Super Bowl campaign has shifted their offense to maximize Barkley’s talents, and a similar pivot defensively could revolve around Parsons.

The Philadelphia Eagles have honed a blueprint for stealing unhappy stars from rivals, using decisive offers, favorable cultures, and open arms.

Saquon Barkley’s transformative impact may have just begun – the potential return of Micah Parsons could hit with even greater force, adding defensive dominance to Philadelphia’s chase for dynasty status.

With Dallas stumbling in negotiations and Parsons reportedly unhappy, the Eagles might simply ring up their old playbook – and in the process, engineer another blockbuster shift across the NFC East.
