The Milwaukee Brewers are facing a complicated offseason decision with Freddy Peralta, as he is one of their top starting pitchers, and they must decide whether to keep him for one more season or risk losing him for nothing in free agency. In reality, the organization still does not know which path to take.
Peralta is entering the final year of his contract, and unfortunately for Milwaukee, they do not have the payroll flexibility to make him a competitive long-term offer. That leaves the franchise with an all-or-nothing scenario: push for a World Series run this year or walk away empty-handed.
Fortunately for the Brewers, several MLB teams have shown strong trade interest in Peralta this winter, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have stepped back from the race.
The Dodgers will not pursue Freddy Peralta
It was Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman himself who was blunt when asked if the team was still in the starting pitching market, responding, “we’re not”, according to a report from Doug McKain.
In truth, Los Angeles was never a preferred destination for Freddy Peralta, as his addition would have represented more of a luxury move than a roster necessity.
Instead, the San Diego Padres are now emerging as a serious suitor to acquire the right-hander, raising the possibility that both sides could face each other multiple times during the season after being heavily linked in trade rumors.
Now, everything depends on the Brewers’ front office and whether they ultimately decide to trade their ace. The reality is that it would be far more strategic to move him and secure a strong prospect haul, allowing Milwaukee to invest in its long-term future.
