The Los Angeles Dodgers made a powerful move to their roster in the middle of the series against the San Diego Padres that could define their future in the 2025 Major League Baseball season.

The above in the dispute between the Dodgers and Padres not only this weekend but also to win the National League West Division championship in the 2025 MLB campaign.

What powerful move did the Los Angeles Dodgers make to their roster?

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-handed reliever Kirby Yates from the 15-day injured list prior to the second game of a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Kirby Yates is a great addition for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as their bullpen has been plagued by injuries all season. Kirby Yates returns to the team a day after Tanner Scott, who came off the injured list before Friday’s game.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers are still without key arms in Michael Kopech and Brock Stewart, Kirby Yates can serve as a top setup man to help Scott get the job done in close games.

Kirby Yates was placed on the injured list for the second time this season on August 1, 2025, due to lower back soreness. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Kirby Yates to a one-year, $13 million contract in the offseason, and he has a 4.31 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 31.1 innings this season.

How is the Dodgers-Padres battle for the National League West going?

At the time of writing, the Dodgers and Padres currently have the same record (73 wins and 56 losses), but Los Angeles is ahead of San Diego via the head-to-head tiebreaker, which they have already secured regardless of the outcome of this weekend’s series.
