The Dodgers emerge as favorites to bring in another superstar alongside Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the MLB teams unafraid to make big investments, and they know how to capitalize on the ambition of other organizations. Now, as they battle for the National League West, they’ve emerged as contenders to land a major star from the American League.

The Toronto Blue Jays did everything possible to convince Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a massive contract extension. Now, they face the daunting task of securing Bo Bichette, which won’t be easy given his potentially high demands.

This is where the Dodgers enter the equation.

Can they pursue Bo Bichette from the Blue Jays?

Bo Bichette, Toronto’s shortstop, won’t command a contract close to $500 million like his teammate Guerrero, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he secures something near $200 million this offseason.

Under this scenario, Christopher Kline of FanSided has mentioned the Dodgers as a potential team interested in free agency.

“MLB does not need a salary cap. The system is not ‘broken’ in the way cheap, small-market owners would have you believe. But if there’s anything we know about the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2026, it’s that their resources are endless and their sights will be set on just about any available star,” Kline wrote. “We’ve already heard the Dodgers tossed around as a potential sleeper for Kyle Tucker and his $400 million-plus salary. Bichette might be a more realistic target.

“Mookie Betts has reached a low point in his career. Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ outfield desperately needs a facelift, as the Michael Conforto signing has not panned out. It shouldn’t be hard to move Betts to left field and install Bichette at shortstop full-time, where he can share the infield with the likes of Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Hyeseong Kim. Los Angeles may ultimately balk at Bichette’s asking price – even the Dodgers need to be smart with their spending – but there isn’t a more desirable destination in MLB.”

The Dodgers, who currently have Mookie Betts at shortstop, could benefit from this signing by securing the position for the next five or ten years, while Betts could move to the outfield, where he might feel more comfortable.

It’s hard to imagine the Dodgers making this move, especially since it’s difficult to outbid the Blue Jays, who have significant financial resources to invest.

Still, Bo Bichette‘s name will be one of the most intriguing in free agency, as we await whether he stays in Toronto or tests his luck with another team.
