The Dodgers demand rule changes for the benefit of Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Dodgers have demanded that MLB change the rules for Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers’ idea is that the Japanese two-way phenom should pitch out of the bullpen in the 2025 MLB playoffs.

Andrew Friedman, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ president of baseball operations, said: “I think they have this rule wrong. I think the rule was put in place to try to encourage people to do it, to incentivize them. So yes, I think they got it wrong. Obviously. It’s not reasonable to ask for that during the season.”

The current Major League Baseball rules are a major obstacle, as they do not allow Shohei Ohtani to hit if he pitches in relief. If Shohei Ohtani starts a game as a hitter and then comes in as a reliever, he would be prohibited from continuing to hit once he is finished with his pitching duties.
