The Dodgers and the unresolved matter with Tommy Edman: an enemy team complicates his continuity

The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves at a critical point of uncertainty heading into next season, and the main focus is on Tommy Edman’s status. The team is dealing with the player’s recovery from ankle surgery, which puts his immediate availability as the starting second baseman in doubt.

This situation has become even more tense because their arch-rival, the San Diego Padres, has entered the race for the main replacements that Los Angeles has identified in the market.

Padres threaten Dodgers

With the potential absence of Edman, who may not be ready at the start of the campaign, the Dodgers’ priority is to secure a reliable infielder. However, reports indicate that one of their main targets, Brandon Lowe, is also being aggressively courted by the Padres, a franchise whose value is estimated at $1.95 billion.

San Diego’s desperation to strengthen is palpable. Facing an offseason with possible major departures through free agency, the Padres are ready to enter a costly bidding war.

Lowe is a coveted piece, as he not only comes off a solid season with 31 home runs and 83 RBIs, but also offers the versatility to play both first and second base, a vital quality for both teams.

The Dodgers are going for Munetaka Murakami

After being back-to-back World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers left the celebrations behind to continue working on building an even higher level roster and have therefore decided to continue looking at the Asian market.

This time, the target is Munetaka Murakami, one of the most productive and talented players in the NPB, who in 2025 managed to hit 22 home runs in just 56 games, closing the year with an impressive OPS of 1.051.

Murakami’s arrival would be very important for the Dodgers, but the investment is not a small thing. His market price would be around $90 million, a fairly considerable figure and one that, for now, would have negotiations underway, but nothing definitive.
